Last March, the XII Encuentro Práctico de Profesorado de ELE (XII Practical Meeting for Teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language) was held in Madrid. Many renowned specialists in the field of language teaching coming from different parts of the world took part in this event. Cervantes Escuela Internacional had the pleasure to attend and to present a workshop entitled Aplicaciones lúdicas del PowerPoint: renovando la clase de ELE. (Play-based uses of Power Point: updating the SFL lesson).
The aim of this workshop was to highlight the sometimes forgotten play-based approach in the SFL classroom. There are certain topics which due to their complexity or subject matter are generally quite tedious for the students (literature, some cultural subjects, vocabulary practice of certain semantic fields, several areas of grammar). However, through a play-based approach that nevertheless keeps in its didactic weight, it is possible to bring our students closer to these subjects without having them fall asleep.
Many of the workshop’s participants were able to see how classroom games help to create a the team spirit within the group, to maintain the student’s attention and motivation and also help to remember contents, both in adult and youngster’s groups.
We know how important play is in our lesson, and all of our teachers bring a fun touch to the learning process so that our students can learn, almost without realising it. In order to do this, we have a specific department for the creation of our own materials that really takes into account the individual needs of the student within a certain group.
